EK1 Iron Cross / Eisernes Kreuz Wartime period LDO Box “so called half box” without an opening button

The cross is not included in the sale; it is shown for illustrative purposes only.

These pieces were produced towards the end of the war.
They are private purchase items, as indicated by the LDO number on the inside of the box.
An interesting feature of these pieces is that, due to the need to conserve materials—as raw supplies were rapidly dwindling—the manufacturers abandoned the standard construction methods used earlier; consequently, these late-war boxes lack both opening/closing buttons and metal hinges.
As shown in the photo, the “hinge” on the back of the box is made of paper, and the lid is kept secure by a snug, tight fit.
A fine collector’s piece.
