EK2 Iron Cross / Eisernes Kreuz Schauerte & Höhfeld with small date inner core.
EK1 Iron Cross / Eisernes Kreuz Schauerte & Höhfeld with small date inner core.
The cross is an early type but already made of three pieces, with an early orange ribbon.
The frame is made of bunt metal, the inner core is made of zinc, so it is not magnetic.
There are two known types of this type, the traditional type and the type marked with a small date.
Many people did not notice or were unaware of the differences for a very long time, because pieces made with a “small date” are very rare.
I found this piece about 14 years ago and I have not had another one since.
So it is really just a unique cross.
This piece was listed as an unknown manufacturer among collectors for a long time, then later some collectors linked it to Friedrich Linden, then later one associated it with Assman, but now we know 100% that these pieces are pieces made by Schauerte & Höhfeld.
Since as time went on, marked L/54 types were found.
Although many people still stick to what is written in books, just as I am writing the book, the facts are facts.
However, with a lot of my energy and the support of a few collectors, this was finally proven, so the identification of the manufacturer of this piece can be safely stated as a fact.
